Romanian debut on the 39th Eurovision Song Contest

The Romanian debut on the 39th Eurovision Song Contest is with the song called “Beyond the Clouds” known in Romanian as ‘Dincolo de nori’.

The song is written by the Romanian singer Dan Bittman and Antonio Furtuna.

Televiziunea Română (TVR) held the national final in Bucharest on the 20th March 1994 and was hosted by Gabriela Crista. “Dincolo de nori” was chosen to represent Romania in the international contest after the votes of five regional professional jury panels were combined.

On the Eurovision Song Contest 1994, the Romanian debut qualifies for the finale which was held at the Point Theatre in Dublin on the 30th of April 1994.

Bittman performed in Romanian: “Beyond the Clouds- Dincolo de nori”, being 11th on the night of the contest. He received 6 points from Malta, 6 points from Greece and 2 points from Lithuania totaling a number of 14 points and finishing on the 21st place out of 25th and because of the EBU relegation, Romania missed the 1995 Eurovision Song Contest. The spokesperson for Romanian Television (TVR) who offered the Romanian voting results was Cristina Țopescu.
